look, it’s a bird … really!

today has been a bizarre day in our office.

there was a bird — i am serious about this — flying around the newsroom. it was weird. some black bird. (a starling? i think that’s what someone said it was.) but man, that sucker was fast. it criss-crossed the room a few times, nearly nailed a news copy editor and had us laughing like hell. two guys from the pressroom chased it around and tried to capture it with these makeshift nets (one of which was a large trash bag attached to some pole-like thing) but with no luck. the free entertainment, though, was well worth it. they made a hell of a lot of racket in the process, but it had to be one of the weirdest things i’ve ever seen.

as of now, the bird is still at-large. maybe someone will see a huge pile of crap on their desk after the holiday….

transition is the name of the game …

while i am in the midst of my own transition, everyone else around me is having all sorts of things going on as well….

scott just had a kid….well, actually, the kid was born on may 16….a lovely girl named jordan elizabeth. how cool is that? i get the feeling i will be babysitting said daughter at least a few times while i’m out in sacramento…..but many congrats to him….there is nothing like being blessed with your first child. i am very happy for him.

(of course, this is a feeling i hope to have someday….but not for the next 5 years or so…..’cause kids are wicked expensive….)

(dude, i want a girl! i think i would name her milani. she would grow up to be a chick who could kick serious ass. but i am getting way, way, way ahead of myself.)

also, pete got fired from his job at goldey-beacom about two weeks ago….he was bummed and pissed about it…..but he may have landed on his feet, having done a phone interview with merrimack college today. yay. i am happy for him as well. i hope he does find himself a new job, a real full-time job at that. one with benefits, too.

rizza is also about a week into her new job and is doing well. she’s stoked about having benefits too. hahaha.

i am so happy for all the people around me. woohoo!

a whirlwind …

i had my eagles national anthem audition today…..not a great day to have a sore throat and half a voice…..but i guess i did okay. one of the judges seemed to like me. and for someone who didn’t really have a voice, i was okay. no major cracking or anything. i’m still kind of pissed that i didn’t have a full voice. but oh well.

my delaware soccer coaching career also officially ended today. *sniff* we lost, though. maybe i will retire from coaching until i have kids. that could be a while.

the movement workshop recital was last night…..and it went really well. no major screw-ups or anything. and it was tons of fun. i will miss those guys. dance classes are slowly coming to an end here. *sniff again* i’ve got to find a place to dance for the summer in sacramento.

now, time to breathe….but for just a little bit….my to-do list will never shrink at this rate….

have i mentioned i HATE moving? and the general transitional crap that comes with taking a new job? i mean i’m excited about the bee and all and going back to california, but i really do wish these things could be accomplished with the snap of my fingers. blah. i’m such a whiner.

a new job!

okay, so i’m a few days behind….

….but my new job is official. very official. i will be at the sacramento bee this summer. woohoo.

i finally get to return to california. i get to be nearer to a lot of friends, work at a bigger paper, work with my old prof, and have a really great opportunity. i am totally stoked. i liked a lot of the people i met and i think it’ll be a fun time. woohoo again.

the only thing that kills me is that i have to move cross-country. and move my cats. and find a new place to live. blah, blah, blah. moving is such a logistical nightmare. i hate moving. but ’tis a necessary evil. hopefully though, i won’t have to move again…..or at least not for a very, very, very, very long time.

i just got over the flu a few days ago…i always get sick at the worst possible times. this weekend marks the end of a few things on my docket (one recital down, one more to go….soccer season ends…..my eagles anthem audition is sunday), so maybe my life will get a little less crazy. ha. fat chance. once i get rid of something, something else pops up (like trying to move across the damn country).

oh well. at least the bee is totally helping out. i didn’t expect all this help. it rocks. it’s like, two less things i have to think of.

rizza has moved in but her stuff is everywhere! :-) not that it’s her fault. there is a lot of transition in my house. i have to move all my crap before she can move into my room. and i still have an intern moving in on may 29. holy crap.

well, ’tis late and i have too much to think about. and i have a long day tomorrow. not to mention, i have a show. holy crap. i think it’ll go well. dress rehearsal went well. so here’s to hoping.

bits and pieces.

i got back from the sac a couple days ago….it went well….i enjoyed the town….and now i am back, back in waiting for godot mode….

i took one step toward trying to fulfill a pipe dream….i registered to audition to be a national anthem singer at an eagles game….woohoo! i’m supposed to get info in the mail within the week. the audition is may 22. i’ve always wanted to do it. i’m glad i remembered the audition this year.

i also placed my kentucky derby bets: $5 exacta on Bellamy Road and Afleet Alex, and $2 to show on Greeley’s Galaxy. hopefully i win something….i could use the cash….

i also found out today that i am a godmother….my cousin gaye sent me a card about her daughter’s baptism….i’m so disappointed i wasn’t able to make it out to chicago to see that kid….

rizza comes in just over a week. woohoo!

and now, back to my regularly scheduled life….
