greatest. softball. game. ever.

thursday. lots of fun. and man, did i get hammered. i mean, i’m thinking i haven’t been that drunk in a long, long time. perhaps it’s comparable to the time we were all in miami the day after the orange bowl (the punching incident). but i digress.

the main fun came with our softball game. we were playing socal’s, this team that killed us 15-1 earlier this year. apparently, the slugs have lost to them four times in a row. so kepley really wanted this game. it didn’t look good down the stretch, though. we headed into the final inning with a 7-3 deficit.

but the bats came alive, and the first three hitters got on base. we pushed in a couple of runs. then came the turning point: a jason margolis sac fly, with jen borrelli charging into home. the throw from left field was pretty spot on, but jen made the perfect slide and knocked the ball out of the pitcher’s hand (he was covering at the plate for the catcher). and just like that, we were a run back. and it was my turn to bat. with the bases loaded. holy crap.

i took a strike. then a ball. then i swung on the next pitch. it rolls up the first-base line. the out is me, at first. but i took the forceout at home away. so i got the game-tying rbi. woohoo!

next batter is jim downing, who proceeds to hit the game-winning single and races like madman screaming down to first base.

we celebrated like we won the world series. pretty sweet.

we did the usual pizza afterward (melody couldn’t go though…she was cleaning out her old apartment). then it was a night at the golden bear: kepley, tim casey and me, with cameos from margolis and rob. i only had to pay for one drink. ha. but i was bought four others. the tally? a newcastle from tim; a bacardi and coke from rob; another bacardi and coke from kepley. holy crap.

but i got home okay. but man, i was totally hammered.

all i needed was lunch today, though, and it was all good. and of course, what am i doing later tonight? having a drink or two (there’s some sort of bee gathering at a bar nearby). oy.

hey, i gotta train for the drinkoff on my birthday! i can’t let a meevasin win….nor can i let edgar down….

see my shop!

dude, it is raining outside! do you know how long it’s been since i’ve seen rain? holy crap.

there is also thunder and all that fun crap.

unfortunately, this means i can’t ride my bike home. my seat is going to be soggy. not to mention my helmet. but i can’t ride it home. so jane offered to take me home tonight.

on another note, i decided to start a little side project, selling some homemade jewelry and crafts on the internet. i’ve actually sold two pieces so far. woohoo! i’m not in it for the money — i’m just glad there are people out there who like my stuff.

so, check out my store: http://rosebud.etsy.com

now, back to work and listening to thunder…

you gotta love the hood!

lots of stuff, so little time to blog…

first off, i had my first officiall ghetto moment in sacto! i got home for work on tuesday night and wasn’t too tired, so i stayed up about an hour and was knitting. i finally hit the sack around 1:45 a.m. no more than 10 minutes after i turned out the lights (i had been knitting in my bedroom, which faces the street), i heard an argument outside the window. i didn’t think it was a big deal; i hear arguments outside the window every so often. usually people getting out of the bars (but definitely not the regular clientele at round corner, right across the street — round corner folks are not ghetto and violent).

anyhow, so this argument is going on. it’s two dudes cussing each other out. then a woman joins the mix, telling the two dudes to shut up. this goes on for a few minutes, and then i hear a muffled scream, followed by BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG! six gunshots, dude! it was crazy. after that, the noise dies down and the people just leave in their car.

i never found out what happened. i don’t know if anyone died. all i know is i heard the shots, was kinda freaked out, but stayed in bed and didn’t bother to call the police. i wasn’t going to get involved in that crap.

it’s been quiet the last few days, though….

now, back to work (prep hell is just about done….).

what a stretch …

wow. i went out three nights in a row. i don’t think i’ve ever done that. it was lots of fun though.

thursday, i played softball. i actually made contact. woohoo! i hit a ball that i think got past the third baseman. my first hit. i didn’t think i’d ever get one. seriously. i’m pretty bad. i got thrown out at third later on.

it is sunday and so far, my sunday is sucking. ed is kicking my butt in fantasy football. my suicide pool pick is freaking losing (and looking pretty crappy too). ugh.

i can’t get eliminated in my own pool in week 1. that’s just not cool.

strange happenings …

dude, so i’m sitting at work and all of a sudden we hear this pow-pow-pow right outside the window. it happened around 11:15. i said, “that sounded like fireworks.” but a couple of other people were like, “no, that’s gotta be gunshots.”

holy crap. i was kinda scared. but i still didn’t think they were gunshots. i never heard police or anything.

so jane puts in a call to security (or someone in the building) and finds out they were indeed firecrackers.

phew.

dammit, i was sure they were firecrackers. i’ve heard plenty of them (mostly illegal ones) to know….
