good news.

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!

i’m totally stoked because pete is coming to visit me here in sacto this summer!

i had been hoping to go out to boston and visit him in july, but seeing as money and i aren’t really getting along all that well, i decided i would scrap those plans and just chill out here during the one week of vacation i already asked off in july. but over the last couple of days, pete has been telling me he’s trying to plan a west coast vacation. and so, we have more or less hit on a plan.

he’ll probably come after the all-star break, which is when the phillies (coincidentally) play a three-game series against the giants. a bunch of the old phils writers (a.k.a. ed’s cronies) will be in town too, which is really just a party waiting to happen.

something tells me this summer is going to be pretty sweet …

don knotts died!

as someone who watched “three’s company” a fair amount while growing up, the death of don knotts is kind of sad.

on the other hand …

as a participant in a dead people’s pool (of course i’m the commissioner … what do you expect?), don knotts’ untimely passing is a giant boon for me. because he was on my death list. only mine. and no one else has a dead person yet on his or her list. nyah.

(morbid, i know, but hey, we’re talking cash at stake here.)

this pool started at the beginning of february. and we’d all been wondering when someone on our lists would kick the bucket. now it finally happened. perhaps the floodgates will open now. we’ll see.

anyhow …

ed and i also went to softball practice today. i suck at fielding. blah. i bill bucknered a bunch of ground balls (though i was actually playing at second). but i suck. and, while ed and i were playing catch, he accidentally nailed me on the left shin. so now my left knee (i think i have some sort of non-cooperating ligament) and my left shin hurt. walking is a small problem.

my body is telling me i’m old. stupid body.

a thought.

when all you gotta keep is strong,
move along, move along, like i know you do
even when your hope is gone,
move along, move along, just to make it through
the all-american rejects, “move along”

couldn’t think of a better philosophy in life, even if i tried.

moving along …

this is the hood?

just another night in the city …

i’m sitting on my couch, watching some tv, when we hear this loud screeching noise outside. it sounds like a car. and it sounds like it’s squealing a long ways down the street. it gets louder and louder until we hear it in front of our house. ed and i peek outside, and sure enough, there’s some car in the middle of the street, right in front of our house. it’s all out of shape and there’s smoke coming out of the hood and it’s just stopped in the center lane.

over the next hour or so, a grand total of two fire trucks and three police cars (one of which pulls into the driveway of the house, right in front of the gate) come by to investigate said incident. there’s all this song and dance going on outside, and finally, around 11:30 or so, i peek out and see that the cops are hauling some chick away. ed, who has been watching the proceedings more closely than i, says that the girl is the driver of the car. i saw her handcuffed and being led into the cop car. and then the car got towed away.

bizarre.

i still don’t know why the car was squealing, or why it came to rest practically in front of our house, or even why that chick got arrested, but it was just odd.

life in the city is never dull …

chillin’.

it’s been a laid-back holiday. i didn’t work today or sunday. though i am losing track of days.

i went ice skating with ed today. i haven’t skated in a couple of years. i forgot how hard it was. yeesh. but it was fun.

we also went to see our house again. just about everything is done. we even have grass in front and appliances in the kitchen and blinds everywhere. woohoo!

otherwise, not much going on lately. just crocheting like crazy to fulfill some orders and finish some projects …

i tired.

damn, i’m old.

i got an email today about our 10-year high school reunion next year. already? crap. i feel old.

it would be interesting to see how everyone in my class is doing. i don’t really keep in touch with many of them anymore. (though i should … i’m so terrible at these things.) many of us have kids. many have like, three. holy crap. many are successful. i’d say we were probably a very diverse group.

i hope i can go. it’ll probably be in guam … which means long-ass flight, expensive tickets, blah blah blah. and i’d have to return to the damn island. crap. but i am curious to see how it’s changed in eight years. i’m sure it’s not the same guam i remember.

on another note, i sort of volunteered to take on yet another web project (for the class of 1997). i think i am certifiably crazy.

a lack of snow …

i was scanning the wires yesterday and saw that there was a major snowstorm headed for the northeast … then i looked at the calendar and realized it was near president’s day weekend. there’s always a damn storm around that time.

so sure enough, i wake up today and look at the news journal online … and there is a foot of snow in delaware.

whew. glad i’m not trying to shovel myself out.

it would have been a shitty day to have had to go to work. what with the michelle kwan olympic fiasco, which didn’t break until something like 3 a.m. eastern time. so not only would i have had to deal with that if i was still working in delaware, i would have had to deal with a major snowstorm and wondered how the hell i was going to get out of the house.

for us here, the kwan thing broke right at midnight. it sucked. it required scrambling. and maybe it didn’t make the full run, but we tried. but it was fun putting that story together.

ah, the joys of the pacific time zone … and a lack of snow.

i love snow and miss it … but not in copious amounts.

woohoo!

as it turns out, i may get to see death cab for cutie after all!

we were supposed to see them on new year’s eve at giant village in L.A. … the epic we’re-going-then-we’re-not-then-yeah-we-are tug-of-war that was trying to figure that out. then giant village got cancelled at the last second — well, at least we got to go a rave anyway. but edgar, nop, ed and i were totally bummed that we couldn’t see death cab.

as it turns out, death cab is making a stop in sacto, of all places. i heard about it from katie at work the other day. so ed looks it up, and sure enough, they’re playing memorial auditorium with franz ferdinand. pretty sweet.

ed signed up for the presale, which is tomorrow, and we’re going to get tickets. concert is in march.

i am totally stoked.

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!

go steelers!

ten years ago, i was a high school junior, listening to the Steelers get beat by the Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX on a tiny radio i smuggled into school under my uniform. of course, in guam, the Super Bowl is on monday, not sunday, hence the stealthy tactics.

i remember sitting in the front row of my chemistry class, the single earbud of the radio (clipped to my skirt, hidden under a sweater) in my ear. i nearly cheered at one point — the Steelers had scored — until i remembered i had to be concentrating on carbon or something.

ten years later, i’m a working adult, watching my beloved steelers win a super bowl. woohoo!

admittedly, the game was kind of boring. and i was suffering from serious food coma after our decidedly large spread. but i enjoyed watching the aftermath and seeing bill cowher cry and the Bus hold up the trophy and those crazy Steelers fans waving a billion Terrible Towels.

it almost makes up for the Rose Bowl. almost. but it was fun to see, nonetheless.

and my terrible towel will hang proudly in my cubicle for at least a few more weeks.
