damn you, nose!

so i go to my allergist yesterday for a follow-up appointment. i’d gone a couple of months ago so i could get tested and figure out why i’m sneezier than sneezy the dwarf.

i’m sitting in the office (with a sniffly nose, no less) and i’m waiting, waiting, waiting …

… and the doctor says that i’ve tested negative for all the allergens. i barely trip the indicator for cat dander. but i’m not allergic to anything.

wtf?

i mean, i’m glad i’m not allergic to my cats. but nothing?

i have to admit, i’m feeling all kinds of disappointed.

i guess i will be sneezy the rest of my life. i need a new nose.

gotta get away from here.

sometimes you just need to leave town. not even to go very far, just to leave.

did that the other day and went to sonoma and santa rosa. why? wine and the charles schulz museum, that’s why.

(i love Peanuts. i won’t lie. Lucy was always my favorite character because i was just as bitchy as she was.)

anyhow, it was a blast!

we drove through fog:

in a fog

we stopped in sonoma and got lots of wine:

the plaza

ravenswood
(ravenswood winery was one of the wineries we went to.)

and the museum kicked ass.

got tickets?
charlie brown statue in front of the museum

mural
awesome comic mural

now i’m back. wah. too bad the escape was only temporary.

work? what work?

ok, i’ll admit it, i was knitting at work.

hat in progress.

(it’s a for my friend parker … he goes to sac state. he is a loyal customer of mine. he always orders rad hats.)

for the record, the day at the tax office was totally dead. no customers. so i started this hat at my desk there. i continued it during my dinner break at the paper. i wasn’t really knitting at my desk there. (i got in trouble for it once.) but i was indeed screwing around and took this photo.

i like the hat. it’s coming out nicely. i had to sketch out the pattern for the S. i was worried it was going to look all jacked up because sometimes translating from graph paper to actual knitting sometimes looks weird. i’m not worried so much anymore.

ok, back to real work now. (seriously!)

*and just for the record, if you look at the photo really carefully, you will see that i had finished most of my work. my list (in the bottom corner) is almost all scratched out. so there.

let the rain come down …

in case you haven’t heard, we are being hit with a major deluge up here in the big tomato.

i woke up this morning and the power went out within 10 minutes. (it was out for six hours.)

i was working my first day of the tax season at H&R Block and one of the windows shattered in our office around lunchtime. all i heard was this huge boom! and then i walked into the lunchroom and a corner window was shattered — with a big triangular portion just whipping about in the wind. we weren’t sure if something hit the window — there were 60 mph gusts — or if it was just the air pressure bursting the window.

nevertheless, it added a little spice to the day.

the roads are a mess, there are limbs and trees down everywhere — one of my co-workers at the paper had a tree fall on his car — and it’s all kinds of crazy. at least the wind died down. we’re still expecting lots of rain.

i felt like i was back in guam, during a tropical storm or something. yeesh.
