to mac or not, that is the question?

i am in one of those moods again where i am fixated on one thing. i want a macbook pro, dammit.

i am surrounded by them in the lab at sac city. two tutors sported new macbook pros in the span of a week. i am hella jealous.

in typical libra fashion, i have to weigh the pros and cons. (hey, we are the scales, after all.)

pros:
- more power!
- i can actually tote it places!
- no wasting productive time ’cause quark takes 20 minutes to open. or illustrator. or photoshop. or indesign.
- i would feel instantly cool.

cons:
- i have no money. (or very little money.)
- i’d have to get all my adobe software all over again (though i guess that actually won’t cost me anything).
- i don’t have time to move crap from one machine to the other.

if you remove the money part, the pros totally outweigh the cons. but lack of cash is a huge con.

i have, ahem, some stores of money. but i need to save for a rainy day. i have bills to pay.

but could the ability to do more work mean i could make up the difference?

argh!

my head hurts.

(watch me go out and buy a computer despite all this deliberating.)

maybe i just need to hit the lottery.

inventory = painful

it’s that time of year that i absolutely hate: taking inventory for my business. really, it is the biggest pain in the butt. especially if you have ever walked into my room and seen the disaster that is my workspace.

i’m actually a couple of months late (shhhhh!) in doing inventory, but i haven’t been doing much lately, so it’s not really that big of a difference. i finally had a sunday in which i didn’t a) have to work in the morning; b) have to attend a meeting; or c) have some sort of miscellaneous obligation.

of course, waking up at noon didn’t help (give me a break — i was out really, really, really late the night before) but at least i was feeling semi-productive. that is, until i got to the part where i had to inventory materials (a.k.a. the giant mound of yarn in my room):

here’s a picture from ground level, for a better perspective of mount yarn:

the scary part? that’s only half the yarn i own. and that’s not even counting all the wool that’s in my closet!

alas, i didn’t get to counting everything. i still had one bag left to go before i had to take off.

and, i have a cold. when do i not have a cold?

*sigh*

i need inventory elves. anyone have any to lend?

vacation!

it’s official as of a few days ago — ed and i are going east this summer after all.

(it took a lot of hand-wrangling, negotiation and whatnot to get the days off … you would have thought i was trying to broker some multimillion deal between some uber-rich companies or something. yeesh.)

anyhow, our destinations are rhode island, boston and maine. i’ve been to the first two, but not maine.

seem like a random choice? well, homeboy pete’s getting married in rhody, so that’s why we’re going there. boston is right there, so of course we’re gonna hang out there. (i heart boston very much.)

and then there’s maine. gotta add it to the ever-growing list of states i have set foot in. (i think maine will bring me up to 38. or 39. i forget.)

and of course, maine = lobster. which is really the whole reason we’re going in the first place. i expect to have me lots of this:

that’s what i’m talking about.

just gotta find decent flights, book some hotels and count down the time ’til i get to escape.

only thing i’m bummed about is that i won’t make it to delaware/philly. oh, well. there’s always a next time.
