that rosebud girl
comings, goings, thoughts, whatever.
the great sod adventure.
if you know us and have been to our house, you’ll know that we have been without a backyard for, oh, about two years. we finally got our act together and had a porch poured in and planted some trees. but grass has eluded us.
we planted grass seed back in june, but went on vacation and the grass became very sad. ed deemed this a traveshamockery and wanted instant grass. enter the sod, which came to our house today.

ed starts with the first few strips.

this is the yard when he first started. (pretty sad, eh?)

this is most of what was delivered to our house. (we’d carted about a quarter of it to the backyard … using a crappy old luggage cart.)

the yard after about an hour and a half of work.

more work done, just before i had to go to work.
i’m excited about instant grass.

i get traffic alerts in town on my twitter feed, and saw that an accident happened at this rather unfortunate intersection of names:
TALLYHO DR at SCHMUCKLEY DR
holy crap.
who names streets in this town? i’d hate to live on Schmuckley Drive! i’d feel like a schmuck(ley).
anyway….
just trying to amuse myself while crap breaks out because of this stupid ron-ron artest trade …

… i managed to lock up an outing to see the So You Think You Can Dance tour when it comes to Sacto. yeah, i’m stoked. yeah, i’m proud. stop your snickering.
the show’s in october, just a few days before my birthday. woot!
it’s just one of the five billion things i have to look forward to this fall, a list that includes:
- USC football games (and my first set of true season tickets)
- stage managing a production of Footloose
- numerous craft fairs (’cause I haven’t done those in a while)
- swimming class with Lisa (because i desperately need to get in shape)
wow, i’m gonna be swamped. but it’ll be uber fun.

… that today is my three-year anniversary of working at the paper.
holy crap.
i was remarking to someone at pete’s wedding that delaware seemed like a long time ago. it really was.
it’s been a very interesting three years, needless to say.

i already miss vacation. but alas, i am back with the unwashed, working masses. (on a saturday morning, no less.)
we’re back from our new england jaunt. i have rediscovered the letter “r” in conversation. there were several lobster and shellfish casualties and no one was injured by spindly shells. oh, and my friend pete is now married:
awww, they were so cute! and the party was a good time.
the only problem was that our luggage didn’t make it to boston when we flew in. bad weather forced some delays through the day, and we had to connect through dulles. we got to boston rather late and i kind of panicked because all the clothes ed and i intended to wear for the wedding wwere in that suitcase. and all i had was the clothes on my back. literally. i didn’t even have toothpaste, for crying out loud. luckily, the wedding was a late one (6 p.m.) and our luggage arrived a few hours before. whew.
as a side note, the wedding was in west warwick, rhode island. that’s the site of the infamous fatal club fire at The Station. we looked up the actual site of the club a couple of days later and found out the wedding was on the same block as the fire site. eerie.
we also went up to maine and had one of these:
and i pondered the largeness of the Maine boot at L.L. Bean:
and then of course, there was boston. and very little needs to be said about the coolness of the town.
it was also awfully hot and humid, just like i remember it from living out east.
all in all, a good time was had and you can check out the pictures: pete & melissa’s wedding and maine/boston.
oh, and i added two more states to the list of states i’ve been to: maine and new hampshire. i’m now at 40. woot!
